Newport Controls Files Antitrust Suit Accusing Quad-C's Balboa Water Group of Unlawful Acts

Newport Controls, LLC filed an antitrust complaint today against Balboa Water Group, Inc., a Quad-C Management Inc. venture, in the United States District Court for the Central District of California under Sections 1 and 2 of the Sherman Antitrust Act and California law.

The complaint alleges Balboa Water Group is an unlawful monopolist and "willfully engages in anticompetitive and exclusionary acts" that stifle innovation and result in higher prices for electronic spa control systems and the hot tub manufacturers buying them.

Newport seeks treble monetary damages and a permanent injunction to stop what it describes as past and ongoing anticompetitive acts by Balboa.
As stated in the complaint, "Balboa's methods are coercive, oppressive, deceptive, unethical, exclusionary and caused injury to competition and competitors, including Newport Controls."

"We filed this complaint not only for Newport Controls, but for the entire industry to maintain and foster fair and open competition," said Michael Rogerson, Chairman and CEO of Newport Controls. "Every competitor should have an opportunity to provide the best products to customers using the latest innovative technology to benefit consumers at a fair price."
